Friends,

Thank you for not losing faith and continuing our fight for progress, even as these times have taken a toll on each of us in different ways. If these last few months have shown us anything, it's that it didn't have to be this way -- and that it would be unconscionable to get through this crisis only to go back to "normal."

Normal is 87 million people being uninsured or underinsured, 27 million workers being paid poverty wages, and more than half a million people going without a roof over their head on any given night.

And that was before the pandemic hit.

Now, more than 45 million workers have lost their jobs, at least 27 million people have lost their health insurance simply because they lost their job, and the millions of Americans who can't afford rent and mortgage payments will face eviction once moratoriums are lifted.

We can't go back to normal because normal wasn't working -- normal is what got us here in the first place.

This crisis has highlighted the crises many people already faced, crises that have disproportionately impacted communities of color. But this is also an opportunity to deliver the bold, urgent solutions Americans deserve -- not the status quo's policies that have caused so many to struggle.

As a movement, I deeply believe we're going to make transformative change happen. Our fight won't be easy but it will be worth every bit of the work and passion we put into it.

In solidarity,

Pramila Jayapal
