Dear Friend,
Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.
Last week, I helped advance several key appropriations bills that reflect our conservative priorities and deliver for Florida and our nation. The House passed the FY26 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs bill, and in committee, we approved the FY26 Agriculture, Rural Development, and FDA bill and the FY26 Homeland Security bill—supporting our troops and veterans, helping Florida farmers, improving food and drug safety, securing the border and enhancing disaster response.
It was a privilege to welcome an FL-18 family to Washington for the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony honoring the heroic Army Rangers of WWII—a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice that defined the greatest generation. I also appreciated being recognized by the Gulf Coast Chapter of ABC as I continue fighting for free enterprise and economic growth.

As a 26-year Navy veteran and member of the House Appropriations Committee, I take seriously our responsibility to support those who defend our country. That’s why I voted for this year’s Military Construction and Veterans Affairs funding bill, which delivers the full support our servicemembers, veterans and their families have earned. This legislation strengthens national defense and honors those who answered the call by:
Fully funding veterans’ health care, benefits and core VA services; Expanding mental health care, suicide prevention and housing assistance; Blocking the VA from sharing veteran data with the FBI without court approval; Prohibiting federal funds for DEI mandates, gender transition procedures or abortion-related services at the VA; Investing in military construction to support Indo-Pacific operations; and Preventing purchases from adversaries like China and protecting Guantanamo Bay operations

Across Florida’s Heartland, families, seniors and small businesses depend on their local post office for vital services such as prescriptions, Social Security checks, and important legal or financial documents. However, in recent years, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has increasingly used a loophole to quietly suspend operations in rural communities without warning. By labeling these shutdowns as “temporary suspensions,” the agency avoids notifying the public or providing a timeline for reopening. To address this issue, I joined with my colleague, Rep. Mario Diaz Balart to introduce the Post Office Closure Accountability Act to restore transparency and accountability in the process. Our bill requires USPS to notify affected communities, local officials and Members of Congress before any closure, whether temporary or permanent, and ensures residents receive timely updates so rural residents aren’t left in the dark. Agriculture is at the heart of Florida’s economy. Our producers work hard to overcome labor shortages, extreme weather and burdensome regulations. Last year, the Biden Department of Labor (DOL) issued a 600-page rule that made drastic changes to the H-2A visa program, threatening to increase costs and disrupt farm operations across our state. The rule would have: - Allowed union organizing by temporary foreign workers;
- Raised labor costs through new wage and compliance mandates;
- Expanded federal oversight and paperwork burdens; and
- Granted third-party groups access to private farmland, raising property rights concerns.
Last May, I introduced a resolution under the Congressional Review Act to block the rule before it took effect. These efforts, alongside strong pushback from Florida’s ag community, helped build national pressure. Earlier this month, the Trump DOL formally suspended the rule—a major victory for Florida agriculture. Click here to learn more.

It was a privilege to welcome FL-18 constituent Riley Williams and his family to Washington for the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony honoring the legendary Army Rangers of World War II. His father, Newton Riley Williams Jr. served with D Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion, who famously scaled the cliffs of Normandy—a feat of extraordinary courage and resolve. His grandson hopes to follow in his great-grandfather’s footsteps, preparing to apply to a U.S. service academy with a passion for aviation and a deep desire to serve. I’m proud to see this legacy of service continue.

It was a pleasure to join the Lake Wales Chamber and Economic Development Council Luncheon to share updates on my work in Congress to rein in reckless spending, advance meaningful tax reform, strengthen our national security and support Florida’s agriculture industry. I also heard directly from community and business leaders on current challenges. It was an honor to recognize two local Vietnam veterans, Andy Anderson and Larry Khan, and thank them for their courageous service to our country.
