Dear Friend,
This Sunday is Father's Day where we honor all fathers.
As Catholic Action is a family of souls, we have asked that a Mass
be celebrated for the intentions of all of the fathers related to our
Catholic Action family.
Father’s Day is a chance for every man to reflect on his father’s
legacy – and his own; undoubtedly, today’s culture continues to try to
couch fatherhood as being irrelevant while placing many demands upon
each one that ends up taking their time away from family and children.
We are consoled knowing God has a better plan and for a father, his
primary focus should be his wife and his children. That is his
vocation!
Fathers are also called to be the spiritual leader of the family.
To do so, they must be thoroughly convinced the Fatherhood of God is
imaged in the father within the family. In other words, fathers are
required to answer the call to be an example of Christ’s love in their
own families as well as in their parish communities and in the
world.
In recent months, fathers have had to set up their spiritual
leadership while sheltering at home. In so doing, they have found the
need to draw upon a particular strength and resiliency in order to
effectively move their families to the path forward from the fog of
the pandemic scare, economic uncertainty and civil unrest and back to
the mission of Christ and to the fundamental truths of our Catholic
faith that have contributed invaluably to the greater common good.
As we honor fathers and as we provide them a moment to bask in the
love and praise we have for them, we take note that dads are a work in
progress and, we pray, saints in the making. In our intentions then,
we pray that all fathers rekindle their sense of mission, to claim
their most vital role as a Catholic father and to rediscover the
nature that is built within them to serve, to challenge and to
continually grow in this way.
We pray especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that He bless all
fathers and their families on this special day.
