Last night, we got two pieces of breaking news.

The first: a press release from Attorney General Bill Barr stating that the U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, Geoffrey Berman, was resigning.

The second: a press release from Berman himself saying this news took him by surprise and that he had "no intention of resigning."

Then, this afternoon, Barr said President Trump decided to fire Geoffrey Berman -- at Barr's request.

It's no coincidence that Berman is also the attorney who is investigating a number of Trump associates. This isn't a clerical error -- it's a grave miscarrage of justice. And AG Barr is at the helm, yet again, sweeping President Trump's legal woes under the rug. We deserve an Attorney General who is interested in upholding the law, not acting as the President's personal lawyer.

It's time for action. Add your name to our petition demanding Barr's resignation.

This is far from the first time that Barr has put his loyalty to Trump ahead of the American people. Barr directed the Justice Department to drop the criminal case against Donald Trump's first national security adviser Michael Flynn. Even after Mark Warner pressured the Administration to release intelligence proving that Flynn lied to the FBI and that he was under investigation for a very good reason, Barr continued to protect Donald Trump instead of pursuing justice.

Barr also ordered peaceful protesters to be forcibly cleared from in front of the White House -- all for a photo op for Donald Trump. Time and time again, U.S. Attorney General Barr has proven that he is more committed to protecting Trump than protecting the rule of law.

Bottom line: Barr is unfit for office. His resignation is past due.
