I come from a family that never gave up.

When my father fled Vietnam after the Fall of Saigon, his boat capsized. He lost his first wife and children to the sea.

But he tried again.

Hand-in-hand with my mom, my parents spent a year at a refugee camp before making it to the United States. My family lived modestly. We relied on programs like food stamps and Medicaid to survive. That support helped raise me into the man I am today – a man serving in Congress.

That’s why I’m taking House Republicans’ bad faith personally.

When you’ve lived through the stakes, when you know what a safety net can mean to a struggling family, you don’t tolerate people lying about protecting it.

I’m furious when Republicans say one thing and do another. At a CNN town hall, a Republican colleague looked me in the eye and promised he’d never vote to cut Medicaid.

Then he went to the House floor and voted to gut it by billions of dollars.

That’s not just bad politics – that’s betrayal. And I’m here to hold him and the Republicans who voted for doing away with key programs accountable.

While I’m doing everything I can in Congress, it’s clear we need the House majority to truly have accountability. That starts with protecting my seat – one of the closest races in the nation.
