This week, the Supreme Court held that the Trump Administration's attempt to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was "arbitrary and capricious." For now, this means that protections for Dreamers are restored, and there is a new sense of hope.
But we can't forget that the Trump administration threatened to deport nearly 700,000 young people who grew up in this country and know no other home. I can't imagine the anguish of the families, children, and young adults who lived with this uncertainty for years.
DACA is a policy built on compassion and understanding; a policy that has allowed young people to build their future, families, and careers in earnest. DACA recipients are an integral component of our communities and the economy. I am committed to protecting their safety and well-being, and hope my colleagues in the Senate will pass our legislation to provide long-term protections and a path to citizenship.
Home is here.
Thank you for standing with me, and with Dreamers,
Suzanne
