Team,

Every generation of Americans is ultimately called upon to defend democracy — to bring our nation closer to its founding ideals. Now is our time.

Leading the fair maps movement requires ongoing vigilance and sustained investment from all of us, and we hope you’ll join us in powering this movement with a donation to All On The Line.

The fact is that, right now, the foundations of our democracy are being pushed to the edge in more ways than one.

As someone who spent the majority of my career at the Department of Justice — from line lawyer to U.S. Attorney, Deputy Attorney General, and ultimately Attorney General — it absolutely tears me apart to see the current administration wreaking havoc upon this institution. They have gone as far as dismantling the Civil Rights Division.

In so many ways, the Civil Rights Division is the conscience of the Justice Department. Without it, our freedoms are at risk — especially as far-right extremists make it clear they’re working to undermine democracy and thwart fair representation.

Whether it's through onerous voting requirements, partisan gerrymanders, or attempting to use courts to invalidate legitimate election results, the goal is the same — to undermine the fundamental right of Americans to have their voices heard.

Having the Justice Department enforce civil rights protections, including upholding the Voting Rights Act, has been foundational to the promise of American democracy. Now, we are seeing the Department used as a tool to empower an anti-democracy minority.

So while the Department of Justice retreats from its duty, we the people cannot. The work we’re doing to strengthen and protect democracy is critical.

All On The Line and our affiliate, the National Redistricting Foundation (NRF), are on the frontlines of the ongoing struggle to ensure that voters can participate in a democracy that’s truly and fairly representative.

From fighting for fair maps in courtrooms to combating anti-democracy legislation in state legislatures — from mobilizing volunteers against gerrymandering to equipping voters with the information they need to make their voices heard — our movement rallies Americans to ensure fair elections and fair representation.

At the end of the day, it comes down to the power of the American people. Together, we can defend our democracy — and we must.
