Friend,
This Pride Month sadly looks a little different than years past. Pride has become one of my favorite summer events in San Diego -- not only as the proud sister of two LGBTQ+ siblings but as a proud San Diegan. The energy, enthusiasm, and joy surrounding the festival and parade are unmatched. It's a time to come together, reflect on our history, and build resilience for the fights ahead.
While we celebrate last week's Supreme Court ruling on workplace protections, there is much more work to be done to protect and expand rights for the LGBTQ+ community.
One of the biggest fights is the Equality Act, passed by House Democrats in May 2019. Unsurprisingly, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have refused to take up the vote. It's time to speak out and keep up the pressure. Sign your name to demand the Senate pass the Equality Act. [link removed]
The Equality Act ensures that no one can be fired or denied public housing and other government services because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. It is long past time that we ensure that all members of our community have access to opportunity, no matter who they love or how they identify.
If you agree, sign your name today. [link removed]
In solidarity,
Sara
