Dear John:

This week, I stood in support of a House resolution to condemn the attacks that killed Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and injured Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. These victims committed themselves to public service and believed they were working to make their state a better place. There is no scenario in which that dedication should have cost them their lives.

Engaging on Ag Trade

This week, I joined 55 of my colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick commending their ongoing efforts in trade negotiations. The letter also advocates for strong market access for our farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers.

I am working with the Trump Administration to remove trade barriers and make new trade agreements to give our producers long-term certainty in what is, by its very nature, a volatile industry.

You can read the entire letter here.

Funding for Veterans, Not DEI

This week, the House passed the first funding bill for Fiscal Year 2026, the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs bill, to fully fund veterans' health care, benefits, and other critical programs under the Department of Veterans Affairs. It also invests in military construction and refocuses defense investments on national security priorities.

What it doesn't fund is unnecessary "diversity, equity, and inclusion" initiatives, benefits for illegal aliens, or transgender surgeries. Funds that were going towards these activities will be redirected to actually helping our veterans and their families. It invests in things like barracks and child development centers, and focuses a significant amount of funding towards mental health services and housing programs.

Thanks for visiting!

A lot of great groups have come out to D.C. and I'm grateful to be able to have talked with so many people that are as passionate about our strong rural communities as I am.

The American Seed Trade Association is one of the oldest trade organizations in the country. I appreciated hearing from them on the roles their members play and challenges they are facing in areas like tax credits for expensing research and development, or R & D. The One Big Beautiful Bill allows for the immediate expensing of domestically conducted R & D through 2030.

The Minnesota Propane Association was in D.C. and I was glad to talk to them about issues and legislation concerning their marketers, dealers, and customers. Their association serves 233,000 homes, farms, and businesses that depend on propane every day.

When the Minnesota Farm Bureau was in town, I got to share with them all the great victories for our ag industries in the House’s One Big Beautiful Bill like enhancements to make crop insurance more affordable, investing in the livestock biosecurity safety net, and doubling funding for the Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development Program.

Thank you to AARP for meeting with me to talk about the issues that matter to America’s retirees and what Congress can do to help.

I appreciated hearing the Minnesota County Officials’ perspectives when they were in D.C., and I look forward to staying in close contact as Congress works to pass legislation that helps our rural communities in particular.

It was great meeting with members of the Associated Builders and Contractors and hearing about all the organization does to advocate for our construction workers. Thanks for meeting with me!
