Today Florida saw its highest spike in Coronavirus cases, with Hillsborough County setting new records by adding 372 single-day recorded infections.
The recent months have shown us just how important local elections are for our safety and security. The lockdowns were supposed to buy us time while our government organized safety measures and responses in order to decrease the number of people who would be infected. Every health expert predicted a spike if we didn't take precautions.
Governor DeSantis has not supported face mask requirements. He opened bars and gyms before health experts said it was safe to do so. And he is endangering students and teachers by opening schools in August with little to no concrete safety procedures in place.
As more and more people contract this disease, Governor DeSantis has tried to push blame off onto agricultural workers and dismiss the risks of the current spike because so many victims are younger and healthier than those who got the disease initially.
Each person who contracts COVID-19 puts more Floridians in danger, and with our total cases now over 90,000 and climbing, businesses all over the Bay Area are closing as employees and patrons contract the disease.
The Republicans have landed us in an economic recession without effectively eliminating the spread of this disease. They have no plan to keep us healthy or to help our economy.
We need smart leaders who listen to the advice of experts to be making the decisions about the future of our state.
