John, My opponent recently signed a letter in support of cutting Medicare and Social Security during the largest public health and economic crises of our lifetime. You read that right. My opponent, a Republican-turned-Democrat, is in support of cutting two of the most popular social safety nets in our country at a time when working people are deeply suffering due to COVID-19.
The letter, signed by the most conservative Democrats and Republicans, proposes the TRUST Act, which is described as “a plot to gut Social Security behind closed doors”. How on earth can a Democrat support that? Almost 20% of our district is over the age of 65. Both programs are undeniably popular among all Americans, regardless of party affiliation. Plus, we are in the middle of a global health pandemic and the greatest economic recession since the Great Depression. More than 45 million people have filed for unemployment and up to 43 million Americans could lose their health insurance. With all that in mind, he was still able to stomach adding his name to this letter.
When I represent Arizona’s First District in Congress, my constituents will never have to worry about me stabbing them in the back. I will always fight to expand Social Security and guarantee healthcare through Medicare for All, never cut them. It’s clear that not all Democrats are the same. Let’s give Arizona the strong, progressive leadership we need in Congress. Chip in $10 now. Together, Eva Putzova
