CBS NEWS: Medicaid cuts could devastate hundreds of rural hospitals in GOP states, Democrats say

House Republicans already voted to gut Medicaid, slashing more than $800 billion from the program, threatening coverage for 8 million Americans, and somehow still managing to increase the deficit by trillions.

Now, Senate Republicans want to go even further by slashing Medicare, too. But this isn’t just about policy or politics, it’s about real people and entire communities losing access to doctors, hospitals, and basic care.

These cuts would devastate 338 rural hospitals already at risk of shutting down. In Kentucky alone, more than two dozen hospitals could close — forcing families to drive hours for emergency care or the birth of a child…and Trump and his allies simply don’t care.

With the stroke of a pen, they’re willing to cut the only hospital for miles, leaving entire towns without an emergency room, maternity ward, or anywhere to turn when someone gets sick. And for what? So they can keep calling their bill “big” and “beautiful”? We can’t let this happen, not without a fight.
