John,

I know the last few weeks have been rough for all of us, and it seems like the news cycle is one tragedy after another right now. For those of us who care deeply about our communities, it’s an incredibly tough time.

When I worry about the future of our country, or when things look particularly bleak, I try to find solace in faith and prayer. As I prepare for church tomorrow, I find myself reflecting on a particular passage of scripture from Matthew:

‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

In a moment when Trump and a Republican controlled Congress are trying to strip Americans of their healthcare, deprive them of food assistance, sell public land to the highest bidder, and deport US residents without due process, it is more important than ever that we care for and protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

As long as I have the fire in me to keep fighting for the safety and stability of my district and for Americans nationwide, I will be in service of the “least of these.”

If you’re with me, please consider pitching in $10 or whatever you can before our end of quarter deadline on Monday. Every dollar makes a difference in this fight.
