Hi friend,
Across the country, in DC, and in the Hudson Valley – the summer heat hit hard this week. Wherever you are, I hope you and your family are staying cool and staying safe.
In this week’s Patriot Weekly, I wanted to talk to you about some of the work I’ve been doing in the district – alongside students and small businesses – to draw attention to the ways this administration is impacting them. I also talk a bit about where things stand with the budget bill, and how I am continuing to use my voice to highlight how disastrous it is for American families.

Last week, I had a great conversation with members of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce at Cosimo’s in Middletown, to discuss the impact of tariffs on our local businesses. I will keep showing up and keep listening, and I will always, always fight for a more affordable Hudson Valley. What you can do: I believe that with issues like this one, storytelling matters. If you, or someone you know, has a small business that will be impacted or is already seeing the impacts of tariffs, please reply to this email and share it with me. I’d also encourage you to speak out within your own network, online, and by calling your representatives to tell them to push back on this reckless trade policy.New York
[link removed] [[link removed]] What I’m doing: Every child deserves a quality education, but because of the Trump administration’s focus on dismantling the Department of Education, certain critical programs are facing uncertain futures. One of those is the Federal Impact Aid program, which ensures fair funding for school districts that lose tax revenue because they are located near certain tax-exempt federal properties, like military bases. I introduced the Fairness in Education Funding Act to protect this funding and ensure our students are receiving the best education possible.
What you can do: The Federal Impact Aid program supports students here in New York and across the country. Please, call your representative and tell them to co-sponsor my bill to help protect this program and stand with our kids.Washington

What I’m doing: This weekend, the Senate will vote to pass their version of the disastrous budget bill. I and my Democratic colleagues have been banging the drum, cutting through the noise to tell the American people directly how this bill will harm them and their families: it makes devastating cuts to food and healthcare programs while driving up costs; gives massive tax breaks to big corporations and the ultra-rich instead of the middle class; and irresponsibly adds over $5 trillion to the national debt. Families will lose health care. Hospitals will close. Kids will go hungry. All so the wealthiest 0.1% can get even richer. And that message is breaking through, with public polling showing that a plurality of voters oppose this legislation. I will keep using my voice on every platform to highlight the damage this bill will do, and when this version of the bill comes before the House, I will cast a resounding NO vote. What you can do: The Senate took an unpopular bill and made it worse. House Leadership has expressed concern about being able to pass the bill again with the changes they’ve made. That means all of this outside pressure is working, and now it’s time to turn it way up. Call your representatives – make it clear that this bill is egregious and voters sent them there to STAND UP for working people, not sell them out because the president and his billionaire friends want to.

I’ve been a proud advocate of the Equality Act to protect everyone in our community from discrimination. From our schools, to our workplaces, to our homes and hospitals, I’ll keep fighting for equal rights and protections for every Hudson Valley resident in every corner of our community. If one American’s rights can be taken away, all of our rights are at risk. We have to stand together and demand full equality for every member of our community. Please click here to watch the video we recorded when I joined local leaders to rally on behalf of the Equality Act earlier this month. [[link removed]]
