Common Dreams was founded more than 25 years ago on the belief that real change is possible if enough well-informed, determined, and organized people demand it.

There was another driving force, which was that the corporate media was severely and fundamentally failing our hopes and desires for a better world — and undermining democracy itself.

Too many outlets had become handmaidens of the ultra-wealthy. Hell, too many of the people pretending to be journalists *are* the ultra-wealthy. The muckrakers are mostly gone, replaced by blow-dried talking heads, AI bots, and careerists loyal to the profit-driven status quo and antagonistic to the transformative change we all know is needed.

So we created a new media model. No billionaire owner. No corporate ads. No paywall. No profits. Every day, our hugely talented and tireless news team covers the issues corporate outlets never will.

But the cold, hard truth is that the only way all this is possible is with the financial support of our readers, and right now we’re significantly behind where we need to be.

Our top fundraising priority at this moment is to increase the number of monthly Common Dreams sustaining donors. If you can afford $5 a month, that’s great. If you can do $10, $16, $20, or more — that’s better still. Whatever works for you!

You can also make a one-time donation, but it’s monthly donors who provide the ongoing foundation of support that we need to challenge a authoritarian notorious for taking retribution against his perceived enemies.
