John,
I’ve pushed back against political violence for years, introducing legislation to stop violence against women in politics. Two weeks ago, when a man in Minnesota shot and killed a state lawmaker and her spouse and tried to kill more lawmakers, it was revealed that he had a hit list with more elected officials as potential targets. And my name was on it.
My family and I are safe, and I’m not letting this stop me from connecting with constituents or speaking truth to power. That day I went to multiple No Kings rallies in my district and encouraged people to stay in the streets resisting Trump.
But at this time of increased political violence, my team and I need to take more precautions. That includes hiring a private security detail, including a driver when I am traveling around the district and meeting with constituents. We’ve also had to increase security protocols at our campaign headquarters to protect our staff and volunteers.
None of this security is handled by the federal government. All of this must be paid for through our campaign.
We need to budget roughly $1,000 a day when we have added security―which adds up since I’m out and about in my district every week, multiple days a week. We hadn’t planned on these expenses, but in order for me to continue speaking truth to power, they’re necessary.
We should all be able to express our political views without fear of violence. And I will not stop speaking out, defending our rights and demanding human dignity for all people.
Will you rush a donation today to help cover our increased security needs and ensure we have the resources to keep our team safe?

Unfortunately, threats against myself and my staff are not new. And while we’ve always taken these threats seriously before, we’re taking increased safety measures now.
Thank you for always being by my side as, together, we resist hateful and harmful policies while demanding the promise of a multiracial democracy where everyone can thrive.
Always serving you,
Rashida
