Friend, we're overjoyed in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision this week that protected DACA recipients (Dreamers) from deportation.
Now, we must work to ensure that those who faced countless threats of deportation from the Trump administration have a path to citizenship in the only country they know as home -- this is urgently needed, as Trump has already said he'll try again to deport Dreamers.
It's also a moment for all of us in NY-24 to remember that John Katko has failed to lead on this issue. Last year, he voted against the Dream and Promise Act -- bipartisan legislation to create a fair path to citizenship for young people who were brought to the United States as children, have gone to school, served in the military, worked here for years, and passed background checks.
John Katko aligned with the Trump administration and far-right extremists like Steve King and Louie Gohmert by opposing this bill -- and then he lied about the reasons for his vote, earning "Three Pinocchios” in the Washington Post's fact-checker.
When given a chance to stand up for those who needed a voice, John Katko chose to be on the wrong side of history. He chose Trump-like scare tactics to justify voting against critical legislation broadly supported by the American public.
We can show John Katko the door and give the people of central and western New York the new leadership they deserve -- leadership that will stand on the right side of history -- but first, we have to get Dana through her primary on Tuesday.
