In Ethiopia, conflict, climate shocks, and disease outbreaks have left over 2 million women and 188,000 pregnant women struggling to access lifesaving healthcare.

This crisis has caused a spike in threats against women and girls, escalating violence as well as harmful practices like child marriage. Ethiopia hosts the third-largest refugee population in Africa, and pressure is mounting on already strained health services.

UNFPA is committed to addressing these urgent needs. With your help, we can work with partners across Ethiopia to deliver critical health and protection services, including emergency obstetric care, support for survivors of abuse, lifesaving supplies, and essential medicines to ensure the continuity of care for women and girls.

As infrastructure crumbles around them, women and girls in Ethiopia depend on generous donors like you to deliver the lifesaving care they need. If you can make a gift today, it would help provide healthcare and vital services to the most vulnerable living through conflict. [[link removed]?]

Tigist Kebede , a dedicated midwife at Odola Health Center, leads efforts to provide safe deliveries and comprehensive maternal care.

Born and raised in the region, Tigist grew up witnessing women struggle through pregnancy and childbirth without access to proper medical care. “I saw too many mothers suffer because they didn’t have access to care,” she told us. “I knew I had to do something.”

Determined to be part of the solution, Tigist pursued nursing and midwifery at a local health sciences college.

Today, she organizes pregnant women's conferences, fostering community and knowledge among expectant mothers, and has established a maternity waiting home to ensure safe births for women from remote areas.

Tigist told us she dreams of a future where no woman fears childbirth.

“Change doesn’t happen overnight,” she said. “But if we keep working, one mother at a time, we’ll get there.”

UNFPA and supporters like you share that dream, and you can help make it a reality. By donating today, you can deliver lifesaving care and empower communities to ensure safe births for women and girls in Ethiopia and where it’s needed most. Please make a lifesaving gift today: [[link removed]?]

GIVE LIFESAVING CARE [[link removed]?]

Thank you for providing lifesaving care to women and girls in Ethiopia and around the world. We’re grateful to count on your support.
