Hospitals and health systems provide life-saving, 24/7 access to care. In 2021, 17.6 million Emergency Department (ED) visits resulted in hospitalization, and most of these (55%) occurred after hours or on weekends. When there is nowhere else to turn and other sites of care are closed – hospitals remain open for patients.

Right now, access to care for all Americans is under threat. Congress is considering billions of dollars in Medicaid cuts that would weaken the broader healthcare system, leading to crowded emergency rooms and longer wait times.
