Thanks to you, we're shutting down censorship across the country.
ACLU Supporter, Mahmoud Khalil is free.
After 104 days in ICE detention, he is officially back home with his wife and newborn son.
Every time we've challenged the Trump administration for illegally detaining students and scholars who spoke out about Palestinian rights, we've won.
Mohsen Mahdawi. Rümeysa Öztürk. Badar Khan Suri. And now Mahmoud Khalil.
This is a massive victory – and we couldn't have done it without you and the over 150,000 ACLU supporters who came together to demand his freedom.
Thank you for speaking out.
After missing the birth of his first child, his wife's first Mother's Day, and his own first Father's Day, he is now free to experience the many firsts that come with being a new dad.
But our fight isn't over.
As we write to you, there are still pro-censorship lawmakers in Congress and statehouses trying to enact laws to suppress speech they don't agree with. The government is still attempting to deport immigrant students and scholars who dare to exercise their First Amendment rights.
But we're working hard in courts around the country to defend the Constitution. No one should ever have their families, lives, and futures taken from them because they voiced their opinion. We're organizing around the country to protect our right to protest, shut down censorship laws before they're passed, and keep up the fight until all of our rights are respected. And we're so grateful to have you with us.
With thanks for all you do,
The ACLU Team
