John --

I know you are seeking meaningful ways to take action against the rising tide of authoritarianism. I am reaching out because our fiscal year ends this month, and we need your help.

My staff and I are in community every day with people who are bearing the brunt of repression, criminalization, and economic instability. They reach out to UFE for political education and skill-building, to bring art and culture and healing into their work, to learn how to mobilize communities across language.

This is movement infrastructure and this is your impact. The work we do is essential to grassroots mobilization for economic justice.

My staff and I are:

  • Receiving crisis calls from people in Alabama seeking tools to organize community safety from deportation. . . .

And responding with many Know Your Rights trainings – co-facilitated with community leaders using popular education – that go beyond teaching legal rights to reflect on the root causes of an economy that criminalizes immigrant workers.

  • Receiving calls to action from allies engaged in local struggles for better pay in North Carolina. . . .

And showing up with political education, organizer trainings, facilitation, communications support, art, childcare, food, interpretation, and our knack for cultivating relationships across groups and communities that often work separately

  • Receiving requests for help from people directly impacted by recent policies and actions. . .

And holding space with healing circles, mediations, and events for leaders and groups to anchor with one another in the struggles endured by our elders.

  • Receiving renewed demand for accessible information about the billionaire takeover of our economy and what we can do about it, from unions, immigrant-led groups, grassroots policy advocates, and more. . .

And updating our Popular Economics Education curricula with fresh data, analyses, and interactive activities.

(You can see all our current offerings here.)

We are doing all this while managing our own anxieties and fears about the administration's attacks on our movements, people being arrested or disappeared for speaking out, and the ever-present threat of deportations.

Make YOUR impact today. Your gift – of any amount – by June 30 will directly support, mentor, and train grassroots leaders this summer and fall:

  • $5,000 will support 20% of the total expenses for a four-day Training of Trainers (ToT), like our annual Fall Training, or the Social Justice Interpreters Training we will pilot in Alabama this July.
  • $1,000 will cover 6 hours of training and hands-on mentorship for a partner group using popular education to lead “know your rights” trainings.
  • $750 will pay for a full day of language justice interpretation at a training or event, bringing workers together in solidarity across language.
  • $100 will cover childcare costs for a two-hour workshop or worker action.
  • $25 will provide food for a participant at a one-day training or event.

We need you! Empower grassroots leaders with the resources they need to build power and increase community safety in the months ahead. Thank you for all you do.

In love and struggle,

Jeannette Huezo
