Hello,

This is an historic moment in our nation, and we must seize it. I truly believe that this is a moment to select a woman of color for the Democratic ticket. I know this is the right thing to do -- for our party and our country. And that's what I told Vice President Biden when we spoke this week.


There are so many qualified women to serve as his running mate, and I know that he will make his own decision. Right now, I'm focused on helping heal my state, working in the Senate to make real, structural changes to our criminal justice system, and ensuring that Democrats up and down the ballot win in November.


If we don't win big in November, it will be that much harder to pass policing reform. It will be that much harder to have a Supreme Court that will deliver justice. It will be that much harder to help the American people recover from this crisis.


Here's how Democrats win:


We don't make promises we can't keep.

We show people that we have their backs.

We don't leave anyone behind -- no matter who they are, who they love, or where they live.

And we vote!


Friends, it matters who leads the Democratic ticket in this historic moment. That's why I made this decision this week. But trust me: those whose names are printed on the ballot don't deliver the victory. You do.
