My office has received panicked messages from voters who received a letter from Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap, erroneously telling the voter….”If you do not update/confirm your registration or submit a new voter registration form within 90 days of this notice, you will be placed on the inactive voter list.”
The constituents told my office they called the phone number listed on the Recorder’s letter and were put on hold for 30 minutes or more and were desperate for information, that is why I’m sending out this alert.
Election duties in Maricopa County are divided between Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap, who is a separately elected official and the Elections Department, which operates under the authority of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. Recorder Justin Heap is in charge of voter registration, maintaining the voter rolls and database and mailing out early mail-in ballots. Conversely, the Elections Department is in charge of in-person elections and tabulations of ballots.
