John xxxxxx, the only way to reverse bad policy choices is with good policy choices.
Policies that fix the foundation of what’s broken. And that’s what we’re doing here in Maryland.
We know the racial wealth gap affects all of us. It hurts our economy, it restrains job growth, and it limits our potential as a state.
That’s why, since taking office, we’ve invested more than $1.3 billion into our historically black colleges and universities.
We’ve directed over $816 million in procurement awards to Black-owned businesses.
We issued 182,000 pardons to Marylanders for convictions and cannabis possession.
And, just this month, we designated 419 Just Communities to direct up to $400 million in state investments directly to those impacted by exclusionary policies like redlining.
Our work to close the racial wealth gap — and expand access to work, wages, and wealth for Black Marylanders — will continue long past the month of June.
But I am proud of what we’ve accomplished so far. We’re not only growing Maryland's economy, we’re making it more inclusive.
