Email from Rep. McCaul A Real Chance for Peace in the Middle East: President Trump Secures Critical Ceasefire Over the weekend, the United States conducted military strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites to put a stop to their race toward a nuclear bomb. The United States government has long said that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon. President Trump backed that commitment with decisive action — demonstrating the kind of leadership that does what it takes to protect American lives. Without leaving any boots on the ground in Iran, this limited, targeted operation sent a powerful message of deterrence. The significant damage done to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure will put necessary pressure on the Iranian regime — pressure I believe could finally achieve peace in the Middle East. Now is the time for Iran to come to the table and negotiate a peaceful non-proliferation agreement. If they don’t, President Trump will respond once again with peace through strength — and the regime will suffer the consequences, because President Trump means what he says. I discussed this and more on Fox News’ "America Reports." Watch below: Click to watch In the interview, I also discussed how President Trump’s leadership on the world stage has resulted in another big win for our nation. During his recent visit to the 2025 NATO Summit, nearly every country in NATO pledged to increase their annual defense-related spending to five percent of their GDP. For too long, the U.S. has carried the financial and military burden for NATO, but that’s finally going to change with this extraordinary commitment from our allies. As I said on Fox News, "Bravo, President Trump!" Celebrating The Dalai Lama's 90th Birthday This week, I had the honor of hosting a party in honor of the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday. Despite facing unspeakable violence and oppression at the hands of the CCP, the Dalai Lama continues to preach compassion and maintain inner peace — inspiring both the Tibetan people and the whole world. For years, I’ve fought against the CCP’s tyranny and stood up for Tibet’s right to self-determination. While serving as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I led a congressional delegation to Dharamsala to meet with the Dalai Lama and voice our support for the people of Tibet, who continue to face CCP oppression. I was struck by his compassion — the same compassion I see in the eyes of Tibetans living in exile around the world. To showcase the friendship between the U.S. and Tibet, I am proud to have recently introduced a resolution designating July 6th — the Dalai Lama’s birthday — as “A Day of Compassion." This resolution reaffirms the United States’ support for a free and independent Tibet and honors the incredible spirit of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people. Rep. McCaul delivers remarks at the Dalai Lama's 90th birthday party Rep. McCaul with Rep. McGovern and President of the International Campaign for Tibet Tencho Gyatso Rep. McCaul and Linda McCaul with The Dalai Lama Honoring Our Service Members in Congress As the son of a WWII B-17 bombardier, I am always grateful for opportunities to honor our veterans who, like my father, risked everything for the sake of freedom. This week, I had the privilege of attending the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony to honor the Army Rangers of WWII. These members of the Greatest Generation risked their lives to liberate Europe and defend the free world. It was a tremendous honor to meet two of the five remaining WWII Army Rangers and to personally thank them for their incredible service and sacrifice. Our nation’s veterans and service members deserve to be well cared for, which is why I am proud to have voted to pass the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act this week. This bill will fully fund veterans’ healthcare and benefits, modernize our military bases, and so much more. I will always be a voice in the Congress for our nation’s veterans and servicemembers, to whom we owe our freedom. Rep. McCaul with Sergeant Joe Drake and Private First-Class John Wardell Ensuring the People of Iran Hear President Trump’s Message At this week’s House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, I had the opportunity to speak with Kari Lake, the Senior Advisor to the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and the Voice of America (VOA), agencies with a core mission of promoting America’s message in parts of the world that are controlled by oppressive, anti-America regimes. Under the Biden administration, USAGM struggled with systemic issues like security lapses, the misuse of visas, weak editorial oversight that painted our nation and the Trump administration in a bad light, and so much more. It’s time the agency returns to its core mission of promoting America's voice — not anti-America's voice. With the events that unfolded in Iran this week, we must ensure the Iranian people hear the truth about President Trump and our nation: that we do not intend to harm them, but rather their oppressive and theocratic regime. USAGM and VOA can play a crucial role in that effort. I asked Ms. Lake how she plans to reform the agency without weakening America’s voice in Iran.
