Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

For too many years, the RFK campus has sat blighted and underutilized – a sea of crumbling asphalt on the banks of the Anacostia. Now, we are finally on the verge of doing something transformational, not just for RFK and Ward 7, but for our entire city. The Washington Commanders are ready to invest $2.7 billion in this project. It will be the single largest private investment in DC history, and this agreement is the surest and fastest route to deliver for our city at the RFK campus.  

With 180 acres, we can do it all. We will have a brand-new, world-class stadium, new housing and neighborhood amenities, recreation and parks, and an entertainment district that supports all of Washington, DC.   

We have worked for more than a decade for this, and now we have a window of opportunity. But something I’ve learned in life: you never know how soon a window will close. When a window opens, get through it. Now is the time to get this agreement approved so that we can get to work delivering for DC.

Gallery Place Chinatown Task Force: Public Open House

On Saturday, June 28, join Mayor Bowser for the Gallery Place-Chinatown Task Force Open House as we celebrate the completion of the Task Force’s work and unveil its final recommendations for reimagining the neighborhood. The Mayor will also highlight FY26 budget [ [link removed] ] investments that build on this vision, including $17 million to create a new “Gallery Square.” Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend and help shape the future of Downtown DC.

New Bus Network Starts Sunday

This Sunday, Metro will launch its first major bus network redesign in 50 years. The updated system features new routes, names, and schedules designed to improve service across the region. Happening Tomorrow: Open Streets Capitol Hill
Open Streets

For the first time in program history, Open Streets is coming to Capitol Hill and transforming a full mile of North Carolina Avenue, East Capitol Street, and Massachusetts Avenue SE into a car-free community celebration. Streets will be closed to vehicles so neighbors and visitors can safely walk, bike, dance, and play while enjoying a wide variety of free activities. Open Streets is free and open to people of all ages and abilities—no cars, just people!

BeDowntown: GoGo & Salsa at Anthem Row

Live music is taking over Anthem Row (800 K Street NW) tomorrow! This event will feature Go-Go & Salsa and a dynamic showcase of DC’s iconic Go-Go sound and Latin rhythms. Bongo District and the Chuck Brown Band will each take the stage and then come together for a joint set at 7:00 p.m. that blends both styles and sounds. Food and drinks from Roots and Vines will be available for purchase.
