[1]NNU - Medicare for All!
June is Pride Month, a time to uplift and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community
across the country, especially as so many continue to face discrimination
and attacks from right-wing politicians.
In just the first five months of Donald Trump’s second term, his
administration has made it a priority to attack the rights of LGBTQIA+
people. Right now, one big way they’re doing this is through the budget
reconciliation bill, which would drastically cut health care services to
pay for millionaire and billionaire tax breaks.
Cutting nearly $1 TRILLION from Medicaid and Medicare hurts everyone,
including those in the LGBTQIA+ community who are more likely to be
uninsured or underinsured than the general public, and often face
challenges to receiving care due to discrimination or affordability.^1
Plus, the Trump administration and House Republicans are trying to include
a provision in this bill to ban Medicaid funds from being used for
gender-affirming care. This could prevent more than 275,000 trans Medicaid
recipients from receiving the life-saving care they need.^2
The Senate is expected to vote on this budget ANY day now, but there is
still time to raise our voices and make an impact.
You live in a state with a Republican senator. Call your senator NOW and urge them to
oppose this cruel bill. Use our hotline at 202-978-5357 and feel free to
follow this script:
Hi, my name is _______. I am a constituent from Pennsylvania and a
nurse/other health care worker/patient/Medicaid recipient. I’m calling
today to urge you to oppose any cuts to Medicare or Medicaid. Cuts to
these vital programs would take away people’s health care and lead to
hospital closures, especially in rural areas, hurting entire communities.
This is unacceptable and inhumane. I urge you to vote no on the final
budget reconciliation bill if it includes any cuts to Medicare or
Medicaid.
Time is running out, so make your call today!
