Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine visited Belmont County to celebrate the historic Black Horse Inn in Morristown. [ [link removed] ]
Governor DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine visited [ [link removed] ] Belmont County to celebrate the launch of restoration work at the historic Black Horse Inn in Morristown.
The building, which dates back to 1807, was a well-known stop for stagecoaches and westbound travelers along the Old National Road. The site was also an important stop on the Underground Railroad. Once restored, the building will become the new home of Belmont County's Underground Railroad Museum, which is currently located in Flushing, Ohio.
"When we invest in buildings like the Black Horse Inn, we help turn historic spaces into destinations that people want to visit and experience, and that means more tourism, more support for local businesses, and more opportunities for visitors to see what makes Appalachian Ohio so special," said Governor DeWine. "Soon, families, school groups, and others will come here to learn, to reflect, and to discover more of what Belmont County has to offer."

Transportation Improvement Districts $8.9 million for 26 projects in 19 counties [ [link removed] ]
Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel, and Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Director Pamela Boratyn announced [ [link removed] ] funding for more than two dozen transportation projects that will support ongoing economic development across Ohio.
ODOT, through its Office of Jobs and Commerce, is awarding $8.9 million in Transportation Improvement District Program funding to support 26 projects in 19 counties. The roadwork projects will provide access to developable land, create easier access to existing businesses, and alleviate traffic congestion around commercial areas. The projects are expected to support more than 19,400 jobs and more than $3 billion in private-sector capital investments.
“By investing in transportation infrastructure that aligns with local and regional priorities, we’re helping to create jobs, strengthen communities, and attract private investment,” said Governor DeWine. “These funds go directly to projects that position Ohio for success now and well into the future.”
“It’s hard for any business to succeed without road infrastructure to get people to and from their site,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “By supporting these transportation projects, we’re positioning Ohio for more jobs and economic development.”

Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit ( Round 34) graphic [ [link removed] ]
Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Tressel, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced [ [link removed] ] more than $66 million in tax credits to support the preservation and revitalization of dozens of historic buildings throughout the state.
The awards are a part of the Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program, which encourages private investment in the rehabilitation of historic structures by providing financial incentives for their redevelopment.
“As Ohio’s cities and neighborhoods continue to grow and modernize, it’s essential that we honor and preserve the legacy that already exists,” said Governor DeWine. “These buildings are more than brick and mortar—they reflect the history of our communities and the generations of the past. Thanks to these tax credits, these buildings will contribute to Ohio’s future as well.”
In total, 39 projects will be awarded $66,145,922 in tax credits to preserve 47 buildings across the state. The projects are expected to leverage approximately $518 million in private investments.
“Many of the structures that will be renovated through this program are currently vacant and underused, but they all hold so much potential,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “As these buildings are turned into homes, businesses, offices, and manufacturing facilities, these sites will most certainly spark additional investment and revitalization in the surrounding areas.”
