Yesterday marked 10 years since the landmark Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges , which legalized same-sex marriage in the US. I proudly led the legal challenge to Michigan’s same-sex marriage ban, which was later combined with other cases to become Obergefell .

I met my wife Alanna while working on this case, and I proposed to her on the steps outside the United States Supreme Court directly following our arguments there. We got married shortly after the decision, which means it’s also nearly my 10-year wedding anniversary.

Obergefell is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Folks, with Donald Trump back in the White House and more emboldened than ever, this progress is on the line right now.

In just five months, the Trump administration has banned trans service members from the military, ordered the Navy to rename a ship named after Harvey Milk, banned trans women and girls from competing on k-12 and collegiate sports teams, and more.

But unfortunately for Trump, Democratic AGs aren’t backing down. All together, we’ve filed over 30 lawsuits (and counting!) against the administration, and we’re not slowing down anytime soon. We’re fighting back each and every time Trump tries to break the law or infringe upon your rights.
