John, I have a poster above my desk that reads:
“Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out.”
That simple truth has guided me throughout my life -- as a teacher, as a public servant, and as a fighter for civil rights. Like the turtle, I’ve learned that progress often requires patience, perseverance, and the courage to take risks.
Now, with the critical end-of-quarter FEC deadline fast approaching, we need to stick our necks out once again -- and I need your help to do it.
Will you make a contribution today to help us meet this important goal and keep moving forward together?

I’ve collected hundreds of turtles throughout my office to remind me of these lessons. The turtle may be safe inside its shell, but if you’re going to build a movement, you’ve got to stick your neck out.
During these divisive and dangerous political times, I also find inspiration in the story of the sea turtle swallowed by a shark. The turtle refused to give up -- relentlessly gnawing and working until it managed to escape.
That’s the spirit we need today.
We are facing forces determined to roll back civil rights, undermine our democracy, and divide us. But together, if we stay steady, if we keep moving forward -- and if we’re willing to stick our necks out -- we can and will overcome these challenges.
But I can’t do it alone, John. That’s why I’m asking you: Will you make a contribution before the FEC deadline to help us keep fighting for progress?
Thank you for believing in this work -- and for sticking your neck out alongside me.
Thank you,
Jim
