New Dems Unveil Comprehensive Tax Reform Framework
The New Democrat Coalition Tax Task Force led by Task Force Chair Steven Horsford (NV-04), in coordination with the NDC’s broader Economic Growth & Cost of Living Working Group led by Working Group Chair Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), unveiled its Tax Framework to advance common sense reforms to the tax code that ensure better outcomes for America’s working families, small businesses, and long-term economic strength.

The New Dem Dispatch will be a one-stop-shop to keep up with the latest New Dem news, featuring the Coalition’s upcoming policy agendas, opinion pieces by New Dem Members – including commentary exclusive to Substack for subscribers – updates on the New Dems on the Road initiative, and the Coalition’s latest highlights in legacy and new media.

New Democrat Coalition Vice Chair for Outreach Salud Carbajal (CA-24), alongside House Agriculture Committee Vice Ranking Member Shontel Brown (OH-11) and Subcommittee on Nutrition and Foreign Agriculture Ranking Member Jahana Hayes (CT-05), hosted a roundtable discussion on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) with representatives from nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, unions, and industry.
During the discussion, Members and stakeholders discussed the sweeping impacts of Congressional Republicans’ plan to cut $300 billion from SNAP, including devastating effects on state-run nutrition programs, families, children, food banks, farmers, rural economies, and more. Participants also discussed the efforts of their organizations to fight back against these cuts, and what more New Dems can do to help lift up the many voices of those who would be negatively impacted.

The New Democrat Coalition made the fourth stop on its New Dems on the Road Tour, an initiative spearheaded by Vice Chair for Policy Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) to get New Dem Members out of DC to hear from American workers, businesses, industry experts, nongovernmental organizations and local leaders about how to improve policy in Washington.
New Dem Rural Broadband Task Force Chair April McClain Delaney (MD-06) hosted Vice Chair for Policy Nikki Budinski in Frederick County, Maryland to tour a local broadband construction site and hold a roundtable discussion on rural broadband with government officials, industry representatives, and local leaders.
"Having helped lead the BEAD program at NTIA, I know that access to high-speed internet in rural communities is one of the most impactful, common-sense investments we can make in America’s future,” said Task Force Chair April McClain Delaney. “So I was proud to host this roundtable in my district to highlight the real progress we’re making to close the digital divide and transform lives by expanding education, improving health care and creating good-paying jobs. Rep. Peters Reintroduces Resolution to Raise Awareness of Veterans’ Post-Traumatic Stress
Congressman Scott Peters (CA-50) introduced a bipartisan resolution ( H.Res. 542) to reduce the stigma that prevents veterans and servicemembers from seeking mental health care. Mental scars are less visible, but equally harmful injuries causing too many of our nation's heroes to die from suicide. Raising awareness about Post-Traumatic Stress can help ensure veterans reach out and get the care and support they've earned.
Rep. Gillen Introduces Bipartisan “Gio’s Law” to Honor Lynbrook Native Giovanni Cipriano
Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) announced the introduction of H.R. 4019, known as “Gio’s Law”. This bipartisan legislation is being introduced in honor of Nassau County native Giovanni Cipriano, who passed away from a severe allergic reaction at age 14. Gio’s Law would establish a national Department of Justice grant program that provides access to and training on epinephrine products for law enforcement officers.
Reps. Himes, Meeks, Smith Introduce War Powers Resolution to Cease U.S. Hostilities on Iran
Ranking Members Jim Himes (CT-04) (Intelligence), Gregory Meeks (NY-05) (Foreign Affairs), and Adam Smith (WA-09) (Armed Services) introduced a War Powers Resolution ( H.Con.Res. 40) to order the removal of U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities against Iran absent a Congressional authorization, while preserving the ability for U.S. Armed Forces to defend the U.S. and its partners and allies from imminent attack.
Rep. Lizzie Fletcher Reintroduces Legislation To Protect a Woman’s Right To Travel for Health Care
Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) reintroduced the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act ( H.R. 4099) with Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10), Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08), and more than 128 original co-sponsors. Her legislation, which passed the House in the 117th Congress, protects the constitutional right to travel between the states, including for the purpose of getting reproductive health care.
Reps. Houlahan and Kiggans Introduce Bipartisan VET Act to Support Veterans and Strengthen America's Energy Workforce
Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) and Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02), both military veterans and members of the House Armed Services Committee, introduced the Veterans Energy Transition (VET) Act ( H.R. 4105), bipartisan legislation to help connect transitioning servicemembers with high-quality jobs in America’s energy and advanced manufacturing sectors.
