We’re seeing an all-out attack on our communities and due process—on the ground and in the courts.

Just today, the Supreme Court issued a ruling in a case involving President Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship in the United States, limiting the ability of federal judges to issue universal injunctions to temporarily pause presidential policies and actions. This decision opens a pathway for the president to break the law at will. See NIJC’s response to this decision.

Meanwhile, members of Congress around the country are fulfilling their duty to conduct oversight of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities—only to be turned away. Last week, Illinois members of Congress were blocked from entering the ICE Broadview processing center, where their constituents are detained and which ICE has used to entrap and disappear immigrants. ICE’s extreme efforts to avoid oversight and accountability raise the question: What do they have to hide?

Right now, the Senate is debating a budget reconciliation bill that would slash funds for vital services that families across the country depend on—programs like SNAP, Medicaid, and student loan relief—and spend BILLIONS more dollars to detain and disappear community members on a massive scale.

ICE could receive billions in additional funding with absolutely ZERO accountability. We can’t let this happen, which is why YOU need to stand up for our communities.

TAKE ACTION NOW: Tell your members of Congress to reject this harmful budget and invest in our communities instead!

Thank you for defending our communities!
