Friends —
Team Warner is committed to sending weekly updates to keep folks around the Commonwealth up to date with what Mark Warner is working on in the Senate to support every Virginian through this challenging time.
Here’s just some of what Mark is working on:
-
This week, the Senate passed the Great American Outdoors Act, which will support 100,000 jobs across the country (10,000 in Virginia alone), while providing the resources to address maintenance backlog in our national parks. This bill also includes full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), which was established in 1964 to protect our country’s natural beauty and water resources and preserve cultural heritage sites across the country, and which has never had permanent funding before. Mark first introduced this legislation three years ago to fix crumbling recreational infrastructure.

Next step: The House will vote on this bill before it will go to the President to sign into law. |

Mark joined Tim Kaine in calling for a permanent expansion of telehealth access. During the coronavirus pandemic, telehealth allowed Medicare beneficiaries to receive the care they need without increasing their risk of infection. Mark has long been a supporter of expanding telehealth access, and believes the pandemic underscores the need for increased access to virtual medicine.
-
Last week, Mark became an original co-sponsor of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020, led by Sens. Kamala Harris and Cory Booker. This bill provides common-sense changes to hold police officers who break the law accountable, address unchecked bias, change the culture of law enforcement, and lay the groundwork for trust between law enforcement and our communities. While there is no singular policy solution to correct years of overpolicing and systemic racism, Mark believes this bill is an important first step toward meaningful reform.
All of us on Team Warner hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during this difficult time. Thank you for your support.
— Team Warner
