Friend,

The Supreme Court just took away a critical tool we had to stop a lawless
president.

In a 6-3 ruling, the far-right justices eliminated one of the courts’ most
powerful tools to stop government abuse: the ability of federal judges to
block unlawful policies nationwide.

From now on, if Trump rolls out an unconstitutional executive order – one
that threatens civil rights, targets marginalized communities or
undermines basic freedoms – lower courts won’t be allowed to stop it
across the country.

A president could break the law – and federal judges will be forced to
stand by, watching the damage spread, while only the plaintiffs in the
case are protected.

This is more than a legal decision. It’s a calculated step toward
authoritarianism. It creates what Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson called “a
zone of lawlessness” – where the Executive branch is free to act above the
law until the Supreme Court decides otherwise.

We’ve seen how long that takes. And how often this Court sides with Trump.

The case began with Trump’s push to end birthright citizenship – a
blatantly unconstitutional attack on immigrant families. Several district
judges stopped it. But now, under this ruling, most families would be left
unprotected. That’s the point.

The Court didn’t check Trump’s power – they handed him more of it.

“No right is safe in the new legal regime the Court creates.”
– Justice Sonia Sotomayor

And while this Court retreats, too many in Congress are doing the same.
Republican leaders could rein in this dangerous expansion of executive
power – but instead, they’re standing by. Or worse, cheering it on.

This isn’t cowardice. It’s complicity.

We can’t wait for institutions to save us. We have to fight back
ourselves.
