I've been going through old photos and thinking about how we got to this moment.

These photos from Jay's state House campaign in 1990 are some of my favorites. From his early campaigns to now, the boys and I have always been so proud of him.

Jay always stands up for what is right -- no matter the personal consequences. His election to the U.S. House in 1992 was so exciting, but Jay knew his time in Congress might be short if he voted for the assault weapons ban in 1994.

He was right; it was short. He knew that vote was the right one, and he lost his seat for it. He has never regretted it for a minute -- and I've never been prouder of him.

That defeat didn't keep Jay from public service. He ran again and served in Congress from 1999 to 2012 and then became our Governor. Jay has put his heart and soul into serving the people of Washington state. Since Donald Trump was elected, Jay has dedicated himself to protecting us from this dangerous administration, especially over these last few months.

Jay responded to the COVID-19 pandemic with the same judgment and compassion I've seen in him since day one. He consulted with health experts to combat our pandemic and community activists to make real change to combat injustice and racism. Jay is committed to working with and for everyone -- that's only proven to be truer this year.

Washington state needs Jay's leadership. America needs Jay's leadership. Our state is a beacon of light in dark times for our country, and Jay knows we can build something better together. He's built a life and career on that belief and dedication. I see it every single day.
