Hi John,

It's Sarah McBride.

While running for office, and since starting my first term in Congress earlier this year, I have spent a lot of time thinking about what powers me to do this work. And here's how I would sum it up:

Freedom, community, and really hot coffee.

I ran for office to fight for freedom. I know how it feels when elected officials, whose sworn duty it is to represent us, attack our most personal and fundamental rights. I absolutely will not stand by while chaotic, irresponsible Republicans neglect the people they were elected to serve, and instead spend their time telling children where they're allowed to go to the bathroom and telling pregnant folks what they're allowed to do in the doctor's office. Every single one of us deserves better from our leaders.

I am supported by, and will always stand up for, my community. I got into politics because I want to make life better for everyone, in my home state of Delaware and beyond. I believe that's what good leaders can do — we can make big, bold changes to systems that no longer serve us, or were never meant to include us in the first place. We can take back power from anti-choice, anti-democracy extremists, and we can build a better future.

When it comes to women in politics, you can't talk about freedom or community without talking about my friends at EMILYs List. They've been helping to elect Democratic pro-choice women for 40 years and counting — longer than I've been alive! I know firsthand how powerful the support of this community of five million pro-choice champions can be — so it's a privilege to stand with EMILYs List during their crucial End-of-Quarter fundraising drive. Their work is 100% donor-supported, which means your gift goes straight to work electing more women. Please split a donation between EMILYs List and my campaign today. Your gift will be MATCHED from now until June 30!

And yes, coffee. When I was running for my U.S. House seat, I used my time on the road to visit every single Wawa in the state of Delaware. That's not the most ambitious thing I'll do in my work as a congresswoman, but it was pretty impressive.

This week, John, I encourage you to think about what fuels you to be in the fight. If one of your answers is "helping women WIN nationwide,"please split a donation between my campaign and EMILYs List. Between now and Monday at midnight, every single donation will be MATCHED by a generous group of grassroots donors. Donate now:
