Let me start here: The fight against Donald Trump’s unlawful and anti-democratic order eliminating birthright citizenship is far from over.

When the President signed an executive order tossing out birthright citizenship on day 1 of his second term, I sued him within hours and secured a nationwide injunction blocking its implementation. Today, the Supreme Court sent consideration of nationwide injunctions back to the lower courts — and I’m hopeful the courts will recognize that a patchwork of state-by-state injunctions would create chaos and harm across the country.

Bottom line: The rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution shouldn’t depend on what state you live in — they belong to all of us.

We’re a nation of immigrants and California is a state of immigrants, including my own mom who came to California from the Philippines. Immigrants make our state and nation great, and I’ll always stand up for their rights and protections.
