*Gov. Whitmer Congratulates Col. James Grady on Being Chosen as One of Michigan Chronicle’s Men of Excellence 2025 Honorees*
*LANSING, Mich. —* Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued the following statement in recognition of Col. James F. Grady, director of Michigan State Police, being recognized as one of the Michigan Chronicle’s 2025 Men of Excellence honorees.
*Governor Whitmer Statement*
“Colonel Grady is a dedicated public servant who brings over 25 years of experience in public safety and has done a fantastic job at leading the Michigan State Police the past two years. Law enforcement is a difficult job, and I admire his passion and work ethic in continuing to work on building safe neighborhoods and better working conditions for his troopers.
“Since he became head of the Michigan State Police, violent crime rates have reached historic lows, with historic drops in major cities. I commend his ability to build connections throughout Michigan, reaching countless communities, and working with local leaders to make a difference in public safety.
“Colonel Grady also serves as Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security for Michigan and has been working around the clock to keep our state safe and prepared in the event of an emergency. He has been directly involved and leading coordination efforts among federal and state law enforcement in the wake of recent national security threats, the assassination of lawmakers in a neighboring state, and other high-risk security issues to ensure the people of Michigan are safe.
“Colonel Grady has been a great partner and shares my commitment in making Michigan a safer place for everyone. I congratulate him on receiving this honor and look forward to our continued work together.”
*Lt. Governor Gilchrist Statement*
“Colonel Grady has shown clear leadership and strength in his role at the head of the Michigan State Police the past two years. He has made great progress in forming connections between the police and local communities and preparing the state for security threats and emergencies.
“As a former Men of Excellence honoree, I am thrilled to welcome Colonel Grady to this group and know what an honor it is to receive this recognition. I look forward to continuing to work with Colonel Grady on making Michigan a safe and welcoming place.”
