Medicaid is more than basic healthcare coverage

Action alert

For millions of children and adults on the autism spectrum and their families, Medicaid is more than basic healthcare coverage—it’s access to therapies, medical care, and the community supports that make everyday life possible.

Legislation currently being debated in Congress, referred to as the One, Big Beautiful Bill Act, would among other things make large changes to federal spending and revenue, including an $800 billion reduction in the Medicaid budget.

Today, we ask for your urgent attention to this update and to take action. ( [link removed] )

While some lawmakers say these cuts are only meant to address waste and abuse, without impacting care for people with disabilities, nonpartisan analysis from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) suggests otherwise. If these changes pass, the CBO says it expects states will have to alter Medicaid programs in ways that we greatly fear will reduce access to care and create longer waits for some autistic people.

This bill passed the U.S. House in May and was sent over to the U.S. Senate for its consideration. The Senate is currently debating what will be contained in its version of the bill, which if passed will then go back to the House for final votes. Join us in asking members of Congress to protect Medicaid ( [link removed] ) and preserve access to the services autistic people and their families rely on.

Thank you for your advocacy,

David Sitcovsky
Vice President of Advocacy
