I know this week has been alarming for many people across New Mexico, the country, and the globe. Trump’s involvement with Israel’s war with Iran is frightening. Right now, it is critical that members of Congress speak up on this. I made this statement after the President’s attack on nuclear sites in Iran: The American people are clear; they do not want the U.S. dragged into another endless war. The President has taken unilateral military action without Congressional approval; putting our troops and bases at risk and threatening to further escalate conflict in the Middle East. Congress must rein in this President. And I will be saying to my GOP colleagues who have remained silent, it is time to step up. And, as soon as I got back to D.C., I made remarks on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. | I also want to give an update on Trump’s big abomination of a reconciliation bill that is in the Senate. In case you missed it, Republicans added a provision that would open up 3.3 million acres of our public lands to private housing developers. The Senate Parliamentarian ruled that this provision violated Senate rules, and it was removed. But we’re not out of the woods yet! Senator Mike Lee released a new version of his unpopular plan that would require the Bureau of Land Management to sell between 612,500 to 1.225 million acres of public lands within five miles of the “border of a population center.” The new version would still be the largest sell-off of public lands in American history, leaving our public lands near Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, and other population centers at risk of being destroyed for houses for the ultra-rich! We must keep speaking up, speaking out, and calling our Senators to tell them we oppose this blatant theft from the American people. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene called another DOGE Subcommittee hearing this week. This hearing was titled, “Locking in the DOGE Cuts: Ending Waste, Fraud, and Abuse for Good,” but we all know that’s not true. It is a scam in service of a political agenda. I came to the table at the beginning of this whole process in good faith with real, bipartisan ideas that folks have been working on for years, with a desire to fix and modernize the federal government. But what we've seen from DOGE is the exact opposite. From gutting vital programs like veterans’ services to firing thousands of federal workers to the needless suffering of children across the world—this will be DOGE’s real legacy. None of this rooted out waste, fraud, and abuse. You can watch my closing remarks from this hearing below. | I also want to give you all a recap of my time in the district last week. The most important part of my job is being out in the community with all of you. That is where I listen to your stories, concerns, hopes, and dreams for our home. I held three town halls last week, including a Veterans town hall and town hall webinar for our immigrant communities. If you missed it, you can watch it on my YouTube channel below. | I spoke at the Resilient Energy Economies Conference on how we must keep our rural communities in mind as we make the clean energy transition to ensure nobody gets left behind. My favorite thing to do when I’m home is telling the stories about what makes New Mexico special. It was incredible to speak with Pastor Rev. William Cornick Jr. about the history of Grant Chapel AME Church and what it means to our communities, and with A Band Named Sue, a queer country and bluegrass band reclaiming space in the genres who are from right here in Albuquerque! Keep an eye on my social channels for the Grant Chapel storytelling video, but you can watch my conversation with A Band Named Sue, below. | Finally, I want you to be the first to know, I’ve created a Substack! I’ll begin posting there in the near future, so give my Substack a follow here. It is an honor to represent you in Congress.
