We should be worried. An insidious Trojan Horse has snuck into Congress that would allow

foreseeable exploitation to go unchecked for a decade.

In an otherwise innocuous bill about government budget, a 10-year moratorium on state AI regulations has been proposed. This means that, for the next decade,

states will be barred from passing any laws that promote safety in the AI space.

This is deeply concerning, especially when AI is already being weaponized for sexual exploitation in horrifying ways, including:

👉“Nudifying apps” that strip clothes off photos of women

👉Predators creating AI-generated child sexual abuse material, or teens creating this material of their peers

👉AI chatbots engaging in sexually explicit conversations with minors, or entertaining child sexual abuse roleplay

👉Traffickers exploring AI tools to groom and sextort minors at scale

It is imperative that states be allowed to act swiftly to protect constituents from these exploding dangers.
