friend, it’s horrifying enough that a member of Congress would be comfortable tweeting out something so racist and bigoted.
But using your power to urge the Department of Justice to investigate and denaturalize a US citizen like Zohran Mamdani — that’s fascism, and we should call it that.
Trump and the MAGA extremists he has allowed to lead our government are proving everyday that they desire to be corrupt authoritarians. Just look at how they have weaponized the immigration system.
Mahmoud Khalil spent 104 days in unlawful ICE detention because he has opinions that are different from Trump’s. Hundreds of legal residents have had their status revoked as political retaliation. People have been sent to a prison in El Salvador without due process. And when protesters stood up to ICE’s brutality in Los Angeles, Trump sent in the National Guard.
It only makes sense that fellow extremists like Rep. Andy Ogles would try to intimidate and threaten people of color too. Just a few months ago, one of my other Republican colleagues in the House sent around a petition, urging his supporters to help him deport me from the United States.
But now we have reached a new low: Trying to use the DOJ against your political rivals to attempt to strip their citizenship.
This would be a direct attack on the very essence of our democracy and the civil rights that protect all Americans. That’s why I take these threats seriously, and why I am committed to taking power from the far-right at the ballot box before they can do irreparable damage to our nation.
