🏳️🌈 JUNE 2025 EDITION🏳️🌈
This Pride Month, Vote Mama is proud to support moms fighting for the LGBTQ+ community. Seven percent of our endorsed mamas running in the 2025-2026 cycle so far identify as LGBTQ+, and ALL of our pro-choice Democratic moms support LGBTQ+ equality, including transgender rights and access to gender affirming care.
We continue to have hope and put faith in our trailblazing moms who will stand up for democracy, decency, and human rights. Our rage and sadness at current events is being channeled into focus: we're honing in on making sure our moms get elected in November because we need them now more than ever.
Here are some Vote Mama highlights from this month!

ENDORSED MAMAS
NEW JERSEY PRIMARIES: This month, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill won her primary election in the race to become New Jersey’s next governor! Rep. Sherrill is a former Navy helicopter pilot, a federal prosecutor, and a mother of four — so we know she has what it takes to win the toughest battles on behalf of everyday families as New Jersey’s future Mama-in-Chief and first Democratic woman governor. In November, Mikie is facing a GOP opponent who is a handpicked Trump candidate that’s been labeled a “MAGA Favorite” for his praise of the president’s far-right positions and leadership. Recent polling is showing Mikie ahead, but the two candidates are almost neck-and-neck, which means it’s sure to be a competitive battleground showdown.

VIRGINIA PRIMARIES: In other exciting election news, Vote Mama came away from June’s primary races with a 100% WIN RATE in Virginia! As the last state in the South with robust abortion protections, all eyes will be on VA in November to protect reproductive rights and abortion access. And we have 23 trailblazing pro-choice mamas who will be on the ballot in VA, hoping to win so they can help pass family-friendly policies safeguarding our most fundamental freedoms. Abigail Spanberger is running for VA governor: and if she wins, she’ll be joined by TWO Democratic moms leading in both chambers of the General Assembly, giving the Commonwealth a mom-led Democratic trifecta that would have real policy implications — ushering in leadership prioritizing paid leave, childcare, and economic policies for working families.
ALUM SPOTLIGHTS
Trump’s aggressive mass deportation rampage accelerated this month with activists and advocates coming together to speak out against the administration’s cruel ICE raids across the country. Rep. LaMonica McIver is currently fending off legal attacks from Trump’s Department of Justice after being arrested last month during a peaceful protest outside an ICE detention center in New Jersey. But Rep. McIver is standing by her morals and will continue to fight the charges, declaring in a social media statement: “This indictment is no more justified than the original charges, and is an effort by Trump's administration to dodge accountability for the chaos ICE caused and scare me out of doing the work I was elected to do. But it won't work -- I will not be intimidated."

The issue of immigration escalated into violence this month in Los Angeles when Trump deployed the National Guard on non-violent protesters. The move was nothing short of authoritarianism, turning our streets into war zones in a brutal attempt to silence civilians who oppose his extremist agenda. In the aftermath, Trump threatened to unlawfully arrest California Governor Gavin Newsom over the ICE marches — and in response, mama Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove used her platform to call the president out for not only his unprecedented use of domestic U.S. military force on LA civilians but also his manufactured chaos meant to distract from the administration’s disastrous budget reconciliation bill that’s making its way to the Senate. The bill includes devastating cuts to safety-net programs like Medicaid and SNAP, increases to healthcare costs, and other harmful provisions that would hurt American families — all to pay for billionaire tax breaks. We’re so proud to champion moms like Sydney boldly taking a stand against Trump’s destruction.
IN THE MEDIA
- Politico published a notable story on Vote Mama this month, focusing on three of our endorsed congressional candidates who felt compelled to step up and run this cycle, specifically in the midst of the Trump 2.0 era: JoAnna Mendoza (AZ-06), Christina Hines (MI-10), and State Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott (IA-03). Vote Mama founder & CEO Liuba Grechen Shirley is also featured, along with mama and pediatrician Dr. Annie Andrews who is running to unseat Sen. Lindsey Graham in South Carolina. Read the whole Politico article here! >>
- The launch of our Vote Mama Motherboard was also featured in Forbes! Co-chaired by actor and activist Busy Philipps alongside Georgia Congresswoman Rep. Nikema Williams, the Motherboard is a powerhouse group of elected officials, creatives, and movement leaders who are coming together to drive change and amplify Vote Mama’s mission to increase the political power of moms!

- Lastly, our movement is making a difference for mamas across the pond! Vote Mama Founder & CEO Liuba Grechen Shirley sat down with mama and Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom Stella Creasy for The Mumafesto Podcast to chat about the benefits of electing mothers to champion policies that impact families and other marginalized groups that are too often left out of critical legislative conversations. Stella, the podcast’s host, took inspiration from Vote Mama in her work to get more moms in office in the U.K.
Before you go...
Between our school board mamas' recent victories, Mikie Sherrill advancing to the general in New Jersey’s gubernatorial race, AND this month’s key primary wins in Virginia — Vote Mama’s trailblazing endorsed candidates are off to a strong start for the 2025-2026 cycle.
But this is just the beginning. We have a critical window right now: not only gearing up for the 2025 general election in November but also laying the groundwork for the 2026 election year if Dems are going to take back the House.
So in order to make a meaningful long-lasting impact, we need to keep our momentum growing. From providing direct resources to our endorsed mamas, to building long-term organizational infrastructure, to supporting our elected moms already in office — we are depending on grassroots supporters like you to help fuel our movement.
