Folks, a new report from the Congressional Budget Office has confirmed what many of us already knew:
The GOP budget is a massive giveaway to the wealthy, paid for by gutting programs that help working families, children, and seniors.
And the cherry on top? This budget would increase the national deficit by $3 trillion.
Here’s what else Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” could do:
- Force up to 16 million people to either lose their health insurance entirely, or see their premiums skyrocket.
- Slash the children’s health insurance program (CHIP), which helps cover over 9 million kids.
-
Force more than 200,000 Virginians to lose access to nutritional assistance programs (SNAP), or see their benefits cut, even as grocery prices keep rising.
I recently hosted a roundtable discussion in Fredericksburg, and one woman told me her SNAP benefits add up to about $4.50 a day. It’s not much – but it’s a lifeline. Not just for her, but for the grocers, farmers, and communities who benefit from these programs.
This budget is cruel. It hurts people who are already struggling. And it does that so the GOP can hand even more tax breaks to billionaires and massive corporations.
I’m fighting back, but I could use your help to make an impact. Republicans are pushing to get this passed by the end of the month, so we need to raise a public outcry loud enough to get them to listen. Here’s how you can help:
-
Call your members of Congress at (202) 224-3121 and tell them you oppose cuts to Medicaid, Social Security, and other vital programs.
- If you have Republican elected officials, this is especially important — they need to hear from you.
-
Then, spread the word as far and wide as you can. Talk to your neighbors, post online, write a letter to the editor. The more people speak out, the harder this will be to ignore.
Bottom line: This budget will inflict serious harm on working people while making the rich richer and blowing up the deficit.
If you’re with me in this fight, please sign on now to say NO to the extreme GOP budget.
Democrats may be in the minority, but we don’t get to sit this one out — we need to keep fighting back.
Thanks for standing strong with me.
