Royal Lancers to parade through city centre

A number of lunchtime road closures will be in place tomorrow (Saturday 28 June) when the Royal Lancers exercise their freedom of Nottingham.

The Royal Lancers have recently returned from several operations, including Operation ELGIN in Kosovo, Operation TOSCA in Cyprus and Operation CABRIT in Poland. The parade follows a time-old tradition where regiments of the British Army are granted ‘freedom of the city’ to mark their return from operations.

Following a service at St Mary's Church, the military contingent will muster on High Pavement from 11.40am and march to Old Market Square. Members of the public are welcome to watch the parade at any point along the route.

There will be a number of road closures between 11am and 12.30pm in the city centre with diversions in place.

NET Tram

Trams will be suspended between Nottingham Station and Royal Centre from 10am to 12.15pm.

Generic traffic

Reminder that uni open days will increase traffic

Open days are also taking place this weekend at both Nottingham universities.

The University of Nottingham is holding events today (Friday 27 June) and tomorrow (Saturday 28 June) at its University Park and Jubilee Campus, while Nottingham Trent University will also host an open day tomorrow.

This will mean that Nottingham's roads will be much busier than usual and people wanting to travel into the city might be better to leave the car at home and opt for the bus or tram instead.

Nuthall Road

Improvement works to impact on city road

Improvements will be made to Nuthall Road from Monday 7 July until September.

The work will take part in phases and will require the road to close on certain dates which you can be seen here. The road closures will take place between 9.30am and 5pm on weekdays and from 8am to 5pm on weekends.

Lady Bay Bridge

Overnight bridge closures for painting project

Lady Bay Bridge will be closed to traffic overnight from next month to allow for it to be painted.

The Nottinghamshire County Council project, which has been jointly funded with Nottingham City Council, started on Monday this week and is due to finish in October.

To ensure that work can be carried out safely, the bridge will be closed for a short period on the below dates and times:

  • Footway closed daytime 8.30am – 5.30pm (weekdays only): 7 July to 20 August
  • Road closed night-time 8pm – 6am (weekdays only): 7 July to 17 August

You can read more about the project here, including details on the diversion route.

Priory

A52 now closed outbound until the autumn

A reminder that the westbound (outbound) stretch of the A52 between Priory Island and QMC Island (see above) is now closed for the next four months.

National Highways, which is responsible for the A52, is upgrading the road surface because it is coming to the end of its serviceable life. The works will also improve drainage and see new lighting introduced.

A combined cycleway and footway on the eastbound side of the A52 will be added as part of the project.

This stretch is now only open eastbound (inbound to the city) - travel westbound (outbound from the city) is not possible.
