The Mayor and the City Council both own the FY 2026 budget. Now that the process is complete, we must monitor internal and external threats to ensure we control expenditures, adjust for actual revenue, and protect our employees. Together, we will make this budget work.
As President, I challenged the City Council to amend the Mayor’s proposed budget to deliver the services you expect from the city and opposed mayoral vetoes, including:
- Restoring the SDPD’s Northwestern Division
- Additional Positions Focusing on Brush Management
- Fully Restoring All Recreation Center Hours
- Restoring Monday Hours at 16 City Libraries, Including Carmel Valley
- Keeping All Shoreline Park and Bay Bathrooms Open
- Boosting Stormwater Funding
- Funding Small Business and Community Grants

City crews have been hard at work repaving and sealing La Jolla roads. You may notice the new strategy, tackling only the most degraded blocks, avoiding sections that are in relatively good shape. As an example, Girard Avenue. We targeted only the block from Torrey Pines Road to Pearl Street. This stretch just got a fresh slurry seal and restriping.

Please give a warm welcome and hello to our District 1 summer interns. Lauren is back for her second summer with #TeamLaCava from UCLA, where she studies Political Science and Environmental Systems. Quinn is a student at Cal Poly, studying City and Regional Planning. Internships develop tomorrow's workforce and lend more hands to get it done in D1.
