The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” is being worked on in Washington. The House passed this reconciliation bill, which is now in the Senate, with a final vote expected as early as this weekend.

Despite its name, this bill is anything but beautiful. If passed, it will slash billions from Medicaid and food assistance programs like SNAP, limit access to higher ed student aid, and devastate working families — all to give massive tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations.

Here in New York, these cuts would fall hardest on our most vulnerable communities. Many children would lose access to health care. Families already stretched thin would have even more trouble affording groceries. And early childhood educators and the families they serve would be among those most at risk. Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP wouldn’t just increase hunger and poverty, they would also threaten access to child care, strain family stability, and undermine the supports students rely on to succeed.

As education justice advocates, we know that without food, health care, and safety, students cannot learn. This bill would deepen the very inequities we work every day to address.

We’ll be out next week and won’t be in your inbox, so we’re counting on you to take action now, and to share it with a friend too! If enough of us speak up, we can stop this bill before it’s too late.

Send a message to NY Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand — it will only take you a few seconds

We’ve seen what’s possible when we raise our voices together. This bill puts the future of working families and the students we fight for on the line. Let’s make sure our voices are heard before this vote.
