John,
Right now, a deadly bill is quietly making its way through the North Carolina General Assembly. H.B. 193 would let teachers, staff, volunteers—even grandparents — carry firearms in private schools with just eight hours of training.
This is a deadly equation. One that puts money in the pockets of the gun lobby and puts kids in danger.
The NRA and their groupies claim it’s a "lower-cost" alternative to school safety initiatives. But let’s be clear: there is nothing lower-cost about more guns in schools.
This bill would lower the bar for who can carry a deadly weapon around students. And, cost lives.
This isn’t just happening in North Carolina. States like Tennessee and Iowa have passed similar laws arming teachers.
These laws don’t make students or teachers safer. It puts them in MORE danger. Data shows us, real solutions like intervention programs address the root causes of gun violence.
After our second historic March, our organizers successfully passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), the most significant federal gun safety law in 30 years.
This bill gave $250 million for community violence intervention programs. Leading to historic reductions in gun violence in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
While we fight to fund life-saving programs, Trump and state lawmakers are trying to undo our progress. They want to hand power and profits back to the gun lobby.
Gun violence remains the #1 killer of kids in this country. We won’t stop until every student is safe.
In solidarity,
