Dear Friend,

June has been a month of celebration, but also a month filled with urgent calls for change. From challenging the Musk-Trump Administration’s cruel and dangerous budget, to defending Senator Alex Padilla's, and all people's, right to free speech, I'm working in  Congress to uphold the values we cherish in Louisiana’s 2nd District.

This month we also witnessed heartbreaking violence in Minnesota, where elected officials and their families were targeted. We must say it plainly: there is no place for violence — ever — in American politics.

Then, on June 21st we saw President Trump escalate tensions overseas with a reckless and unauthorized bombing in Iran. Read my full statement here

June is Pride Month, Men's Health Month, and Gun Violence Awareness Month. As we celebrate love, equality, and progress, we must also confront the deadly consequences of inaction. I spoke on the House floor about the toll gun violence has taken on our communities.

Hispanic Caucus Press Conference on ICE Detention Facilities

I joined my colleagues in the Hispanic Caucus to stand firm against the Trump Administration’s inhumane deportation practices and the for-profit ICE detention system that fuels them. These individuals are not criminals—they’re families, asylum seekers, and noncitizens targeted for exercising their right to free speech. More bodies in cots mean more profit for private detention centers. It’s cruel, unjust, and it must end.

National Men’s Health Week Resolution

As a father, I think about the future my sons will inherit—and that includes making sure I’m here for it. As co-chair of the Congressional Men’s Health Caucus, I introduced a House Resolution recognizing Men’s Health Week to raise awareness about men's health issues and promote preventive care. Learn more.

Protecting Community Television Act

During Trump’s first term, his administration effectively limited resources available for public, educational, and government (PEG) channels. I introduced the Protecting Community Television Act because PEG channels are lifelines for civic engagement and public education—especially in times of crisis. They shouldn’t become collateral damage in a corporate accounting maneuver. Learn more.

Capacity Building for Business Districts Pilot Program Act

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. That’s why I introduced the bipartisan Capacity Building for Business Districts Pilot Program Act—to increase critical resources for many organizations in LA-02 that are doing the hard, on-the-ground work to uplift small, local businesses. Protecting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

I led 33 members of Congress in sending a letter to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. opposing proposed staff and budget cuts to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Since its launch in July 2022, 988 has received over 13 million calls, texts, and chats from people seeking help—including 1.4 million from the Veterans Crisis Line. Any further cuts at SAMHSA risk disrupting this vital service and could lead to increased hospitalizations and mental health crises going unaddressed. Read the letter.

Fighting Against Trump’s “Big, Ugly Bill”

The Republican budget is now in the Senate—and it will hurt every American, Republican, Democrat, or Independent. These aren’t just numbers. These are people’s lives. Watch.

No Kings Protest

In America, we elect presidents—we don’t crown kings. On the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army’s founding, while our president held a birthday parade for himself, I stood with people in New Orleans and across the country in the No Kings Protest to defend democracy.

Town Halls & Resource Fairs

I hosted resource fairs & town halls across LA-02 in the River Parishes to ensure YOU have access to federal resources and have open conversations about what's happening in our country. I’m fighting for you, so I want to hear what you have to say. Before each event, we held resource fairs featuring agencies to help families prepare for hurricane season. Follow @RepTroyCarter on social media and watch for emails about upcoming events.

Reproductive Health Town Hall

Louisianians reproductive rights are under attack, and I’m taking action. This month, House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and I hosted a roundtable discussion to spotlight the urgent need for access to reproductive healthcare and to amplify voices from red states like ours.

Acknowledgements

Congressional Art Competition Winner

It was an honor to meet our 2025 Congressional Art Competition winner, Lindsay Kane. Her powerful piece, No Human is Illegal, reminds us of our shared humanity and equality. At a time when we’re witnessing cruel and inhumane deportations, her artwork is a timely reminder that art can challenge injustice and spark meaningful dialogue.

National Seersucker Day

The seersucker suit was popularized in New Orleans by Joseph Haspel, Sr., and has been a staple of Louisiana culture for over a century. It was a joy to celebrate National Seersucker Day this month and carry forward a classic Louisiana tradition!

Congressional Baseball game

This month my colleagues in Congress took to the field for the annual Congressional Baseball Game for Charity, a time-honored tradition that brings both parties together for a good cause.
As Louisiana is proud to be home to Marucci Sports, the official bat of Major League Baseball, I dropped by the offices of some of my colleagues playing in the game to deliver their very own personalized Marucci bats. It was a great moment to celebrate Louisiana craftsmanship and cheer on a great cause.

Congressman Charlie Rangel

From the battlefields of Korea to the halls of Congress, Charlie Rangel never stopped fighting—for justice, for fairness, for Harlem, and for the soul of our nation. He was a giant, a trailblazer, a lion whose voice roared for the voiceless.

We’ve lost a legend, but his spirit lives on in every fight for equity and in every young leader he inspired.

Rest well, Congressman. You changed the world—and we will carry your torch forward.
My deepest condolences to the Rangel family and all who loved him.
