The national debt is out of control, and states
are powerless to help. | Three years ago, I introduced the Pay
Down the Debt Act with a simple idea: if Washington
won’t stop its spending spree, let’s give states the power
to help. At the time, our national debt was $28 trillion, fueled by
reckless, runaway spending in D.C., and my legislation gave states the
opportunity to redirect federal grant dollars toward reducing the
federal deficit. Now, nearly $10 trillion deeper in debt, I am
reintroducing this legislation to tackle this reckless abuse of the
“power of the purse.” The Pay Down the Debt
Act serves as a forward-thinking solution that mobilizes states
to help tackle the debt. If a state or local government does not
accept a grant from the federal government, an equal amount to be
awarded to the state or local government is rescinded from the
applicable appropriation account. Amounts rescinded are deposited in
the general fund of the Treasury for the sole purpose of deficit
reduction. As Washington continues to spend money it does not
have, state and local leaders are left balking at the fiscal abuse.
This bill empowers those leaders to take action by allowing them to
return unspent federal funds to help pay down our national debt until
Washington reins in its spending. Happy Trails, |
Senator Lummis' Week in
Pictures | I had the honor of speaking at the
Congressional Award Gold Medalist ceremony. Seeing our next generation
of leaders excites me for the future of our nation; it’s looking
bright! Congratulations to all on this incredible achievement, it is
no easy feat! It was great meeting with Leilana
Moncur, a 4-H Member from Afton, Wyoming and her mother, Drianne. As a
former 4H member, it is fabulous to see the program still teaches the
lessons and skills I learned when I was a young girl. Thanks for
traveling to D.C.! It was wonderful meeting with the
Wyoming Rural Electric Youth Group on their visit to Washington D.C.!
These young leaders are expanding their knowledge in rural
electrification, the role of electric cooperatives, and the workings
of the federal government. I hope you all enjoyed your visit! Col. Matt Lohmeier is tough,
tested, and a true patriot. It was a joy to meet with the nominee
for Under Secretary of the Air Force, and I enjoyed hearing about his
time living in Wyoming with his family. Col. Lohmeier is the right
choice for America. I had a fabulous time with the
delegates from Boys and Girls State as we celebrated their knowledge
of leadership, civic engagement, and patriotism. When a door opens,
take a chance and dive into it, you are the people who will make
outstanding contributions to our state. |
Legislative
Actions | I
teamed up with Senator John Barrasso and Representative Harriet
Hageman (All-WY) to introduce the Small Projects Expedited
Execution and Delivery (SPEED) Act, bipartisan legislation
designed to streamline federal permitting processes and accelerate the
delivery of vital surface transportation projects across Wyoming and
the nation. People in Wyoming know how critical roads are for
connecting our communities, driving our economy, and supporting
tourism. This common-sense legislation cuts through costly
bureaucratic hurdles that delay building highways and bridges. It also
addresses the runaway inflation eroding the capacity to build highway
infrastructure. I'm proud to work alongside Senator Barrasso and Rep.
Hageman on this important initiative, and with President Trump's
commitment to streamlining federal processes, I'm hopeful we can get
this bill across the finish line and deliver real results for Wyoming
families. I chaired the third Subcommittee on Digital Assets
hearing, Exploring Bipartisan Legislative Frameworks for Digital
Asset Market Structure, to highlight the need to clearly allocate
jurisdiction among regulators in order to maintain the United
States’ leadership in financial innovation. Wyoming leads the
nation in digital asset legislation, and I am taking what the Cowboy
State learned and incorporating it on a nationwide scale. The days of
America sitting on the sidelines while the digital asset industry
moves overseas are over. For the first time in our nation’s
history, we have the most pro-digital asset president in U.S. history,
and we have a chairman at the helm of the Banking Committee who sees
the immense value in the United States leading on digital assets. We
must work to immediately pass comprehensive market structure
legislation to secure our financial future for generations to come.
Digital assets are the future, and we must ensure the United States
leads the way. To listen to my full remarks, click here.

Shoutout | Father and son duo
Oscar and Marc Anderson from Jackson, Wyoming, have run 50 half
marathons in all 50 states. What started out as a half marathon during
the COVID-19 pandemic has turned into a father-son adventure over the
past four years. The two finished their last race in Alaska before
Oscar heads off to college this fall. What a wonderful way to make
lasting memories! Photo Courtesy:
